Why collecting search results got harder
Search engines changed how their results pages work, and a SERP pipeline built a few years ago now needs far more requests.
Google needs a real browser
In 2025 Google began requiring JavaScript for search results. Plain HTTP requests get a notice instead of results, so most pipelines now use headless browsers.
Ten results per request
Google also stopped honouring the setting that returned 100 results on one page. A top-100 check now takes ten requests, and ten times the IPs and bandwidth.
Every engine, every market
Results change with the IP’s location, the gl and hl settings and the browser language. Bing, Yandex, Baidu and Naver each have their own markets.

Collect a results page with a headless browser
Open the search in a headless browser through an IP in the target market, with gl, hl and the browser language set to match. Page through the results ten at a time on one IP, and block images to save bandwidth. The Playwright guide covers the setup.

How is this different from SEO proxies?

Do I need a headless browser for Google?
For Google, yes: since 2025 its results pages need JavaScript. Bing and several other engines still return results to plain HTTP requests.
How do I avoid CAPTCHAs?
Spread queries over many residential IPs, match the IP, language and gl setting to the market, and keep a steady pace. When a CAPTCHA appears, retry that query later with a new IP.
How much bandwidth does a results page use?
A Google results page loaded in a browser is heavy, mostly because of images and scripts. Block images, fonts and video, and the proxy cost calculator will show a much smaller monthly total.
Is collecting search results through proxies allowed?
